For those of you joining us in Cuba here is some additional information that you may find helpful.
A valid passport is required to travel to Cuba, and it must be valid for 6 months after the trip.
Canadian money can be exchanged for the Convertible Cuban Peso at the bank in the hotel, or at the Holguin airport. When visiting Cuba, Canadian currency is most reliable; please note, that the country does not have any facilities for bank/debit cards. In addition, if you bring American currency there is a 10% penalty surcharge; and American credit cards, i.e. American Express and Citi Bank, etc., will not be accepted.
There is a $25.00 (Cuban Peso) departure tax, which is required to be paid on return flight to Canada at the Holguin Airport for each person.
The resort requires men to wear slacks in the restaurants for dinner.
For the wedding, attire is dressy casual; for example men can wear casual slacks with a shirt and ladies can wear summer dresses.
Please note: Cellular phones, computers and walkie-talkies are not permitted in Cuba. Also, Cuba uses 220-volt electricity and you require either a voltage adapter or dual voltage appliances, i.e. hairdryer or curling iron. You do not require a different plug however as the electrical outlets allow for Canadian 2-prong plugs. There is also an electric clothes iron, a coffee maker and a small refrigerator in each room.
